The Hand (1981) — Starring Michael Caine, Andrea Marcovicci, Annie McEnroe | Rated R
A comic strip artist loses his drawing hand. Then it starts coming back on its own.
Oliver Stone’s psychological horror film stars Michael Caine as Jon Lansdale, a celebrated comic book artist who loses his right hand in a car accident — and begins to suspect that the severed hand has taken on a murderous life of its own, stalking and killing those he resents. Stone brilliantly keeps the audience uncertain whether the hand is truly supernatural or merely a manifestation of Jon’s disintegrating sanity, and Caine’s performance anchors what could easily have been pure camp.
He lost his hand. He couldn’t escape what it was doing.
