The city was changing. He was still dreaming of what it used to be.
Lou (Burt Lancaster) is a small-time numbers runner clinging to memories of a glamorous past in a city being torn down and rebuilt around him. When a young casino worker (Susan Sarandon) and her drug-dealing boyfriend cross his path, Lou sees one last chance at the life he always imagined. Louis Malle’s Oscar-nominated 1980 masterpiece is a deeply moving meditation on time, regret, and the stubborn persistence of dreams.
