Ms. Scrooge (1997) is a modern, female-led adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol. Starring Cicely Tyson as the titular character, this TV movie reimagines Ebenezer Scrooge as “Ellen Scrooge,” a tough, cold-hearted businesswoman in the present-day. Ellen is a successful but miserly woman who has distanced herself from her family and refuses to embrace the spirit of Christmas. However, after being visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future, she is forced to confront her past mistakes, her lonely present, and the bleak future awaiting her if she doesn’t change her ways.
