Xanadu (1980) — Starring Olivia Newton-John, Gene Kelly, Michael Beck | Rated PG
She was a muse from Mount Olympus. He was a struggling artist. Together, they would open a roller disco.
Olivia Newton-John stars as Kira, a radiant muse who descends from a magical mural to inspire a young Los Angeles artist and the legendary big-band musician he befriends — played by the incomparable Gene Kelly in his final film musical. The result is a gloriously excessive fantasy built around spectacular roller-skating sequences, dazzling neon visuals, and a wall-to-wall soundtrack featuring Newton-John and ELO. Xanadu is joyfully, defiantly, magnificently strange — and completely impossible to resist.
Where magic meets music and anything can happen.
