When Frank Johnson (Ross Elliott) witnesses a gangland murder and goes into hiding rather than testify, his estranged wife Eleanor (Ann Sheridan) is approached by police to help find him. What begins as a reluctant search becomes a race against time — as Eleanor discovers that the killer is also searching for Frank, and getting closer. A reporter (Dennis O’Keefe) helps her, though his motives may be less straightforward than they appear.
