Gator McKlusky (Burt Reynolds) is a moonshiner serving time in a federal penitentiary when his younger brother is murdered by the corrupt Sheriff Connors (Ned Beatty). The Feds offer Gator a deal: go undercover, infiltrate the moonshine operation Connors is running and bring him down. Gator has his own reasons for saying yes — reasons that have nothing to do with justice and everything to do with revenge.
