WHERE DANGER LIVES (1950) — DVD | Robert Mitchum | Faith Domergue | Claude Rains | Not Rated
She needed saving. He tried. That was his fatal mistake.
Dr. Jeff Cameron (Robert Mitchum) is a decent, capable emergency physician who makes one catastrophic error in judgement: he falls for Margo (Faith Domergue), a beautiful and deeply unstable patient. By the time he realises what she is capable of, he is already implicated in a murder, concussed, and heading for the Mexican border with the law behind him and the woman beside him growing more dangerous by the mile.
Directed by John Farrow and photographed by Nicholas Musuraca (who also shot Out of the Past), Where Danger Lives is a lean, sweaty and utterly gripping noir — with Mitchum’s concussion-addled journey south functioning as one of the genre’s most genuinely unnerving extended sequences.
He was running from the law. The real danger was already in the car.
