Description
THE MAN WHO INVENTED CHRISTMAS (2017) — DVD | Dan Stevens | Christopher Plummer | Jonathan Pryce | Rated PG
Before A Christmas Carol, there was the story of how it was written.
The year is 1843. Charles Dickens (Dan Stevens) is broke, his career in decline, and under enormous pressure to produce something that will restore his reputation. In a burst of inspiration, he begins writing a ghost story about a miserly old man and Christmas — but the characters refuse to do what he tells them. Ebenezer Scrooge (Christopher Plummer) in particular has very firm opinions about how his story should end.
Directed by Bharat Nalluri and also starring Jonathan Pryce, The Man Who Invented Christmas is a funny, warm, and beautifully crafted film that brings the creative process to magnificent life — and makes a wonderful companion piece to the story it gave birth to.
The story about Christmas began in someone’s imagination. This is that story.
