THE JOURNEY (1959) — DVD | Yul Brynner | Deborah Kerr | Jason Robards | Not Rated
He could let them go. He was choosing not to. One woman was the reason.
During the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, a group of international travellers attempting to flee to Vienna are stopped at the Soviet border by Major Surov (Yul Brynner) — a Russian officer whose attraction to the beautiful Lady Diana Ashmore (Deborah Kerr) provides a reason — and an opportunity — to delay the entire group indefinitely. Jason Robards plays the young man in her group whose situation is even more complicated than it appears.
Directed by Anatole Litvak and filmed in Vienna, The Journey is a taut Cold War drama of atmosphere, political tension and illicit attraction.
He had the power to stop them. She had the power to stop him.
