Alongside his equally scheming partner-in-crime Oscar (Jack Nicholson), the two concoct a plan to marry into wealth by targeting a naïve heiress — played with sharp comedic flair by Stockard Channing.

What begins as a calculated scheme quickly spirals into a messy tangle of deception, jealousy, and unintended consequences, as the trio find themselves trapped in a game none of them fully control. The comedy comes not from clean setups, but from awkward timing, failed manipulation, and the slow collapse of every “brilliant” plan.
