Becker (Eric Roberts) is an intense, highly motivated Coca-Cola sales executive sent to Australia to investigate a mysterious sales gap in a remote rural territory. What he finds is that the valley is serviced entirely by T. George McDowell (Bill Kerr) — an eccentric, magnificent old man who has been making his own locally beloved soft drink for decades and has absolutely no intention of surrendering his market to an American corporation. The resulting culture clash is funny, warm and surprisingly political.
Directed by Dusan Makavejev with Greta Scacchi in fine form as McDowell’s daughter, The Coca-Cola Kid is an underrated gem.
