Moses Wine (Richard Dreyfuss) is a divorced, wisecracking private detective and former Berkeley radical who’s better at getting into trouble than staying out of it. When his college ex (Susan Anspach) hires him to investigate a smear campaign against a gubernatorial candidate, what starts as a simple political job spirals into murder, conspiracy, and a hunt for a 60s activist who may or may not be dead.
Directed by Jeremy Kagan, The Big Fix is a witty, sun-drenched Los Angeles noir that blends Chandler-style mystery with sharp 70s social commentary — and an early appearance by both John Lithgow and F. Murray Abraham. Dreyfuss has never been more charming or more effortlessly funny.
