THE BEANS OF EGYPT, MAINE (1994) — DVD | Martha Plimpton | Kelly Lynch | Rutger Hauer | R
The Beans were her neighbors. She was afraid of them. She was also fascinated.
Martha Plimpton and Kelly Lynch in this dark and unflinching independent drama adapted from Carolyn Chute’s acclaimed novel — observing the violent passionate chaotic lives of the Bean family through the eyes of the girl next door who is simultaneously repelled and drawn to the world they represent. Rutger Hauer in a film of genuine literary adaptation quality and Martha Plimpton at her most raw and searching.
The Beans were everything her family wasn’t. That was the attraction.
