STARDUST MEMORIES (1980) — DVD | Woody Allen | Charlotte Rampling | Jessica Harper | PG
He was famous. He was celebrated. He was profoundly, hilariously ambivalent about both.
Successful filmmaker Sandy Bates (Woody Allen) attends a retrospective of his work and finds himself besieged by fans, critics, and memories of the women he’s loved, while wrestling with the relationship between art, fame, and meaning. Witty, dazzling, and formally audacious, Stardust Memories is one of Allen’s most revealing and most debated works.
The films outlast the filmmaker. That’s both the point and the problem.
