SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROCK (1956) — DVD | Mike Connors | Fats Domino | Sterling Holloway | Not Rated
They want to ban rock and roll. Good luck with that.
When disc jockey Garry Nelson (Mike ‘Touch’ Connors) tries to open a rock and roll club for local teenagers, a group of uptight adults — led by a pair of delightfully stuffy community leaders — launch a crusade to ban the music entirely. The battle goes all the way to a televised trial, where Garry must prove that rock and roll isn’t a threat to morality… with a little help from some very special musical witnesses.
Featuring electrifying live performances by Fats Domino and Big Joe Turner, this zippy AIP B-movie is as much a music documentary as it is a comedy — and a wonderfully direct snapshot of the cultural war that rock and roll ignited in 1956.
Also starring Sterling Holloway and Margaret Dumont (the legendary foil of the Marx Brothers).
They said rock and roll was dangerous. They weren’t entirely wrong.
