PLAY IT AS IT LAYS (1972) — DVD | Tuesday Weld | Anthony Perkins | Tammy Grimes | R
She had everything Hollywood offered. None of it meant anything.
Tuesday Weld and Anthony Perkins in this bleak and brilliantly made drama based on Joan Didion’s acclaimed novel — a Hollywood actress’s disintegration as she moves through a world of empty glamour moral vacancy and spiritual despair. Tuesday Weld gives what many consider her finest film performance in a film of extraordinary psychological honesty about the particular American emptiness of having everything and feeling nothing. Tammy Grimes in a film of genuine literary adaptation quality.
The life looked perfect. Inside it was nothing.
