PICNIC (2000) — DVD | Bonnie Bedelia | Josh Brolin | Ben Caswell | NR
He arrived on Labor Day. By Monday everything in the town had changed.
Bonnie Bedelia and Josh Brolin in this passionate and beautifully performed TV adaptation of William Inge’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play — a handsome drifter’s arrival in a small Kansas town on Labor Day weekend releasing the suppressed desires and frustrated longings of the women whose lives have been carefully constructed around what they are allowed to want. A film of genuine theatrical power and the sustained emotional heat of Inge’s great American drama.
The town was orderly. He was not orderly. Something had to give.
