Captain Nolan (Richard Harris) accidentally kills a pregnant killer whale during a capture attempt at sea. What follows is not a conventional monster movie — it is a pursuit. The surviving male orca systematically dismantles Nolan’s life: his boat, his dock, his livelihood, his friends. Then, when everything on land is gone, it draws him out to sea for a final confrontation in the icy North Atlantic.
Directed by Michael Anderson, produced by Dino De Laurentiis and featuring an Ennio Morricone score of surprising delicacy and melancholy, Orca is a more morally intelligent and emotionally affecting film than it has ever been given credit for — with Richard Harris delivering one of his most raw and quietly haunted performances.
