Private Hogan (Jack Lemmon) is the most resourceful, most cheerful and most comprehensively insubordinate soldier in his Korean War-era Army post — who schemes to organise a secret party bringing together enlisted men and Army nurses despite the furious opposition of the humourless Captain Lock (Ernie Kovacs). Directed by Richard Quine, Operation Mad Ball is a tremendously funny military comedy — featuring Lemmon’s most anarchically physical performance.
