Jane Marple (Margaret Rutherford) is appointed to the board of trustees of a Royal Navy training ship — and quickly realises that several recent deaths aboard the vessel were anything but accidental. Investigating with her customary combination of apparent vagueness and devastating acuity, Miss Marple finds herself in a nautical world entirely outside her usual village habitat — and entirely inside her professional comfort zone.
The only Miss Marple film not based on any Agatha Christie story, Murder Ahoy is the most delightfully theatrical of the four Rutherford films — with Rutherford herself at her most warmly eccentric and the supporting cast (Lionel Jeffries, Charles Tingwell) clearly having enormous fun.
Murder on land she could handle. Murder at sea was simply a different kind of challenge.
