Jerry Webster (Rock Hudson) is a charming, shamelessly unethical advertising executive who wins accounts by taking clients to nightclubs. Carol Templeton (Doris Day) is his fiercest competitor, who plays entirely by the rules. When Jerry inadvertently creates demand for a non-existent product called VIP, both executives race to sign the account — and their escalating battle produces the most irresistible romantic antagonism of 1960s Hollywood.
