Description
COAST TO COAST (1980) — DVD | Dyan Cannon | Robert Blake | Rated PG
She escaped from the asylum. He was hauling cattle. It was that kind of road trip.
Madie Levrington (Dyan Cannon) is a wealthy woman committed to a New York mental institution by her scheming husband to avoid a costly divorce. She escapes and hitches a ride westward with Charles Callahan (Robert Blake) — a debt-ridden trucker hauling cattle across the country who wants nothing to do with her. What follows is a cross-country chase involving bounty hunters, repossession men and the gradual discovery that neither of them is quite what they seem.
Directed by Joseph Sargent, with Dyan Cannon at her most irresistible and Robert Blake delivering a surprisingly warm and funny performance, Coast to Coast is an enjoyable and much-underrated 1980 road comedy with genuine charm beneath the chaos.
She was supposedly crazy. He was supposedly sensible. Neither description held for long.
