In 1991 Michigan, a young Belfast man named Jimmy (Martin McCann) finds a gold wedding ring in the wreckage of a WWII aircraft on a hillside. His quest to return it leads him to the elderly Ethel Ann (Shirley MacLaine) — a woman whose apparent indifference conceals fifty years of denied grief over a wartime love (played as a young woman by Mischa Barton) she was never able to fully mourn.
The final film directed by Richard Attenborough, also starring Christopher Plummer, Neve Campbell and Pete Postlethwaite — a sweeping, old-fashioned romantic epic about love, loss and the necessity of closure.
