BATTLE STATIONS (1956) — DVD | John Lund | William Bendix | Richard Boone | NR
The carrier took two bombs and 724 men died in minutes. She didn’t sink. Her crew wouldn’t let her.
The USS Franklin was struck by two Japanese bombs on March 19 1945 — suffering more casualties than any surviving US Navy vessel in WWII with 724 dead and 265 wounded. The ship’s survival was due entirely to the extraordinary courage of her crew. Based on the true story and directed by Lewis Seiler, Battle Stations is a respectful and effectively made tribute to the men who saved her.
She should have sunk. Her crew decided she wasn’t going to.
