BATTLE OF THE SEXES (1960) — DVD | Peter Sellers | Robert Morley | Constance Cummings | Not Rated
She wants to modernise. He wants to survive. Only one of them is planning murder.
When brash American efficiency expert Angela Barrows (Constance Cummings) arrives in Edinburgh to revolutionise the House of MacPherson — a centuries-old Scottish tweed company — the shy, devoted accountant Mr. Martin (Peter Sellers) quietly decides that she must be done away with. The problem is he has absolutely no idea how to go about it.
Directed by Charles Crichton (The Lavender Hill Mob, A Fish Called Wanda) and based on a James Thurber short story, Battle of the Sexes is a wry, beautifully constructed black comedy that showcases Sellers at his very best — restrained, precise, and deeply funny. Robert Morley is magnificently dim as the well-meaning but hapless company heir.
The battle began with a ledger. It ended with something far more sinister.
