BAND OF THE HAND (1986) — DVD | Stephen Lang | Michael Carmine | Lauren Holly | Rated R
Five criminals. One Vietnam vet. The Miami drug trade never saw it coming.
Five young offenders from different Miami backgrounds are given a stark choice: prison, or a radical rehabilitation programme led by Joe (Stephen Lang), a Vietnam veteran who takes them into the Everglades to learn discipline, survival and teamwork from scratch. When they return to the city, the five decide to take on the drug dealers who destroyed their neighbourhood — turning themselves from targets into a formidable fighting unit.
Produced by Michael Mann and featuring an original soundtrack by Bob Dylan, Band of the Hand is a vivid, energetic 80s action film drenched in Miami atmosphere and neon — a lesser-known gem from the era that produced Miami Vice.
They were criminals. He made them soldiers. The drug lords made a very serious mistake.
